Kenai Current coming soon

In case you’ve been wondering, the 2013 edition of our annual Kenai Current is coming your way very soon.  In fact it is at the printer and has either shipped or will be shipping any day now.  So please be on the lookout for that and I look forward to your feedback.

It is always fun to look back the past season and look forward to the next.   I have had a lot of people ask about what they are expecting this coming summer after last years statewide low returns of king salmon.  The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has yet to announce their 2013 King Salmon forecast but I think most expect a similar situation as last summer where we have low king salmon abundance and lots of sockeye.  No one really has a crystal ball so only time will tell but there has been some positive progress this winter toward solving important management policies to ensure the future of the Kenai and Kasilof king salmon runs are ultimately protected.

The Alaska Board of Fisheries did organize a Cook Inlet King Salmon task force shouldered ultimately with the task of figuring out how to manage for both low returns of king salmon and huge returns of sockeye. Here is a link for more information:
