The last fish of 2014…

Well its official, 2014 is behind us for good and 2015 is here!  The new year is always bittersweet as one looks back on an entire year of memories and great times on water.  On the last day of 2014 I was lucky enough to spend it floating the Kenai with my brother and my youngest daughter Emma.  Even though fishing was slow, we did manage to catch a few fish and most importantly I got to help 6 year old Emma land the last fish of the year, a perfect way to cap off 2014!

We have had a very mild winter so far here on the Kenai Peninsula. With only one or two days of snow so far and several warming trends and rain, we have little more than a light dusting of white stuff.  Seeing your lawn in January is just not normal for us and it definitely puts a damper on winter sports such as skiing and snow machining.  Thank goodness for the custom jet boat I put together this past summer as it has provided a great way to access the Kenai during a mild winter and low water.  Being the only boat out on the Kenai is a surreal feeling.  On a calm day the silence is deafening, the trees are literally filled with eagles and the shallows are teeming with spawning silver salmon.

Looking ahead to next season starts with also looking back on 2014 and our annual newsletter the Kenai Current is close to going to print so be on the lookout for that in your mailbox reel soon!  If you are not on our mailing list, please email us (mgfish@gci.net) and we will make sure to add you.  Meanwhile, if you are serious about planning a trip to the Kenai River this coming summer, now is a great time to secure your dates.  We are always available both by phone and email to answer all your questions and we look forward to helping you plan the perfect fishing trip!

A very happy New Year from our family to yours and may 2015 bring you happiness, joy and most importantly, lots of time on the water fishing!

    Hi Mark,
Happy New Year. My wife, Sarah and I fished with you 15 years ago in August, 2000. My dad, and son are thinking of planning a fishing trip this summer to Alaska. I used to work with your wife at Mindscape. We’ll be in touch soon. What’s better late June or or mid July?
    Best,
    David Leipsic

Would like to book a day on the Kasilof on June 15 and a day on the Kenai on June 16. There will be five of us and was wondering if you can accommodate us.
