Are you planning a trip for 2015? Act now for the best lodging and fishing dates!

If you are thinking of visiting the Kenai Peninsula during the summer of 2015, now is a really good time to start narrowing down your dates and secure both lodging and fishing reservations.  In particular the sockeye and the silver salmon fisheries have both gained in popularity over the past several seasons.  This is likely due in part to mediocre king salmon returns but it is also likely a result of both these species seeing excellent returns in recent years.  People are becoming more and more receptive to planning their entire trip around just catching sockeye or silvers as these abundant and great eating salmon offer liberal limits, predictable fishing and most importantly for many: success.  Their naturally more abundant numbers lend themselves to much more action on the water and this typically means people are taking home a lot of fish.

Peak dates for sockeye and silver salmon are fairly well spread out but nevertheless, planning well ahead assures you have the best selection of both lodging options and also space with the best guides.  From early June all the way into late September and even October in some years, we can find good numbers of either fresh sockeye or silver salmon somewhere in either the Kenai or Kasilof rivers or, a lot of the times, in both.   In addition to the sockeye and silvers, there are still times when king salmon is a viable pursuit and we remain optimistic that in time the Kenai returns will bounce back.  Also keep in mind we have some of the best trophy rainbow trout fishing in all of Alaska, if not the world, right here on the Kenai river.  While this is not a harvest species and is all catch and release, it does offer a remarkable experience and a true opportunity at some of the largest rainbows on earth.
