Buchatna Creek Fly Out

Buchatna Creek Otter LandingBuchatna Creek Fly Out  is an amazing fishery with huge numbers of fish in a very small and isolated location.  Buchatna Creek is not glacial and turbid but tannin and clear and sight-fishing is the rule.  The shallow sandy river reveals fish movement with distinct v-shaped wakes moving upriver.   Due to its size and the clear water, the Buchatna is ideal fly out fishing water and is all wade fishing.  It involves landing on a remote beaver pond and accessing the river by foot.  You will walk in the same sandy footstep as bear and wolves as you travel from hole to hole in search of undisturbed packs of tide bright coho salmon.

Buchatna Creek Fish OnThis fishery has a relatively small window for prime fishing and is very weather dependent.  If it is too low from lack of rain or too high from too much rain, the river can be very tough to fish. That said, when conditions are just right, this can be the best silver salmon fishing that Alaska has to offer.  Peak dates to fish Buchatna Creek are July 25-Aug 15.
